CHEESE SCONES

Scones are such a great go-to for any occasion. They are quick to make and require very few ingredients.  You can add herbs, different cheeses, pesto etc to spice them up a bit. Just remember that the less you handle the dough the better.

Preparation - 10 minutes

Cooking - 20 minutes

Skill - easy

Makes 12 small

Ingredients

3 cups flour

3 tsp baking powder

Pinch cayenne pepper

½ tsp salt

2 cups grated tasty

1 Tbsp chives, finely chopped

1 ½ cup milk

Method

Preheat oven 200C

In a large bowl, sieve  flour, baking powder, cayenne, salt together.

Add grated cheese and chives (if using).  Stir together using a bread and butter knife.

Add 1 cup of the milk and cut through with the knife. Add more milk if needed so you get a soft, slightly sticky dough.

Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured bench.

Bring the dough together lightly so it forms a ball.

Roll the dough to form a square shape about 1.5 cm thick.

Cut into 9 or 12 squares.

Place apart on a baking tray.

Bake for 20 minutes or until well risen and golden.

Remove and cool slightly before eating.
